Child Exploitation

Standing Against Child Exploitation In Kenya

Empowering Change Through the Gospel of Jesus in Kenya:

Sadly, The culture of Forced Child Brides & Female Genital Mutilation is frequently practiced in all of the tribal communities in which CRI works.

For the Maasai, Turkana, and Samburu tribal people of Kenya it is normal for young girls to be forced to marry between the ages of 8 and 17.

The Challenge:

  • Female Circumcision is mandatory for marriage and causes extreme trauma for young girls and leaves them susceptible to deadly infections.
  • Young girls are often sold by their fathers to much older men in exchange for a dowry of a few cows, consigned to a life of labor / cultural slavery.
  • There is extreme pressure from tribal elders who demand their culture be upheld, under threat of punishment or exile.

Kenya’s Disturbing Statistics:

Kenya ranks among the top 10 countries globally for forced child marriages, with remote areas witnessing widespread practices. These practices violate girls’ rights and diminish their worth.

Path to Change:

Calvary Relief International is beginning to witness a major shift in cultural norms as we introduce the gospel of Jesus, promote education for girls and engage with tribal elders & communities.
