Our History

The History of CRI

CRI Founders Lane and Cindy Wettengel have built Calvary Relief International (CRI) upon a rich tapestry of experiences gathered throughout their missionary journey nearly four decades and several countries. It all began in Grenada, West Indies, from 1986 to 1989, where they served as missionaries to a war-torn nation. Their work included church planting, discipleship, ministry in schools, orphanages, and a very fruitful prison ministry.

Their journey continued to Southern Mexico from 1992 to 2004, where they were missionaries in the states of Queretaro and Oaxaca. Here, they engaged in church planting, leadership training, and were instrumental in co-founding and directing a Bible school. They also took students throughout Mexico to initiate churches, minister in orphanages and schools, and engage in street evangelism. Subsequently, several churches were planted throughout Mexico by their graduating students.

Transitioning back to California, from 2004 to 2017, Lane and Cindy served in various capacities including missions pastor, church elder, and board member. They continued their missionary endeavors, functioning as Bible teachers, conference speakers, leading dozens of mission trips worldwide and engaging in humanitarian relief work.

In 2017, they founded Calvary Relief International, where Lane took on the role of Founding Director and President. Currently, CRI is based in California and actively involved, with it’s supporters, in ministries across the tribal lands of Southern Kenya, Northern Kenya, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Liberia.

As they explore further opportunities, Lane and Cindy are seeking to expand their reach possibly to Pakistan and Ethiopia, leveraging their nearly 40 years of missionary experience and passion for serving those in need. Through their journey from Grenada to various corners of the globe, they have cultivated a ministry deeply rooted in compassion for the hurting and forgotten, empowerment, and spreading the message of hope in Jesus Christ.

Lane & Cindy hope that you might be inspired by our story of how God uses ordinary folks for His glory. We pray that you may consider stepping into a life of service in Missions, with one goal in mind, filling God’s throne room with worshippers from every Tongue, Tribe & Nation.
